PROJECT
RFID Upgrade
CLIENT
Automotive Manufacturer
OBJECTIVE
Implement shorter cycle time in assembly line manufacturing environment.
CHALLENGE
EMS CM21 and Cobalt currently used are obsolete with no parts available in the marketplace.
RESULT
Increased assembly line efficiency through minimizing production cycle time.
SOLUTION
DuroByte NEXUS RFID system compatible with Siemens RFID components (RF300 Series tags and antennas) upgraded EMS CM21 with minor modifications to the original PLC.
This conversion involved the replacement and upgrade of 3 different types of EMS RFID controllers. The three legacy RFID devices included CM21, Cobalt TCP and Cobalt IND. This particular conversion was done concurrently with the existing system. NEXUS Ethernet (NXE) was used for the conversion to the Siemens RFID.
DuroByte developed a RFID system allowing the replacement with minimal modification of the parent PLC or system software.
SYSTEM COMPONENTS
Current system components including Siemens RFID hardware
The typical installation of the Nexus RFID Interbus solution utilizes the RFID components from Siemens. The picture below illustrates a project which utilized the RFC182C and RF340. This project replaced legacy EMS Cobalt HS hardware with the Nexus interface and Siemens hardware.
